Community Meeting and Morning Plenary

After eating breakfast together each morning, the entire community gathers for a physical warm-up, singing, and a short community meeting.
During the community meeting, we discuss how camp is going. Youth and staff talk about issues that affect everyone, such as appreciating the clean-up crew or being quiet in tents at night so that everyone can sleep. This is also a good time to ask questions and make suggestions that will help to make camp the best it can be.
Meeting together at the beginning of everyday also sets the tone for the day and builds group rapport.
The community meeting is usually followed by the morning plenary. The morning plenary is a whole-group interactive learning session on a theme that increases youth empowerment and helps us all be more capable of creating positive change and building a better world.
Typical themes include:
• Learning from diversity
• Expanding your comfort zone
• Positive Self-Identity
• Exploring your relationship to others
• Connecting with nature
• Taking action in the world
