YOUTH VOICES
Youth
Voices is an after school program dedicated to building
community and building leadership within a diverse group of
high- school aged youth, who come together through the
school year. Youth Voices is about making youth voices
heard in the community. Youth are not only the leaders of
tomorrow, but are leaders today so let your voice be heard!
Youth
Voices groups are happening in 2006-7 in
Seattle and
Bellingham, Washington and
Victoria, British Columbia.
Our goal
is to create a safe and supportive atmosphere where we feel
comfortable learning about people who are different from
ourselves and trying out new ways to express ourselves. As
a group we will identify the issues we care about and face
in our schools and society and use arts such as dance,
theater, writing, drumming, or singing as a way of
responding creatively to the issue at hand.
We
develop leadership, facilitation, and collaboration skills
that make us more effective members of our communities,
enable us to make positive change and allow us to ensure
that our voices are heard about issues important to us. We
involve guest artists, mural painting, live performance,
production and behind the scenes work, and much, much more.
Youth Voices is a fun and challenging opportunity to learn
skills you can take with you for the rest of your life.
