Past and Current POH/GEAR UP Programs
Since 2005, The Power of Hope has developed and delivered an exciting variety of creative arts programming for GEAR UP students in Skagit and Yakima Valleys. Here is a brief description of some of our past and current programs:
The Monologue Project
A creative writing and theater project during which students write expressive, autobiographical monologues which are then compiled in an anthology and performed by college students for the young authors and their families.
“I found it surprising how they could relate to us so much. It made me think to go to college.”
— Student, 8th grade
Skagit Radio Project
Bringing youth voice to the community, students in the Skagit Radio Project wrote and recorded public service announcements in English and Spanish to address topics such as gangs, healthy family relationships, tips for academic success and more.
“I think the Radio [Project] is very important for my son and his development in the community.”
— Radio Project Parent
Arts Adventure Summer Camp
A 5-day intensive camp designed for youth to expand their creative thinking, increase positive identity, bolster their commitment to learning and increase social competence and leadership skills.
“I think this experience will change my life.”
— Student, 8th grade

Imagine
Best described as "one day of summer camp" Imagine offers students a chance to explore a range of arts workshops and to imagine the positive potential for their futures.
“I hope there will be many opportunities as beautiful as this one.”
— Student, 9th grade
Creation & Motivation Seminar
A day-long program designed to help youth identify and develop personal goals then design personal action plans to achieve them.
"Because of this program, I’ll have more of a plan and set more goals for myself, short and long-term."
— Student, 10th grade
Activate
An interactive assembly for an entire grade of one school that incorporates experiential learning and group work.
“I liked how all the staff encouraged me and other students.”
— Student, 8th grade
Parent Night
The first session of its kind, the program was a partnership between The Power of Hope and The Parent Academy in 2008. The session incorporated community-building activities, creative play and deeper reflection with the parent community around the shared goals parents hold for their childrens' futures.
“Power of Hope created a successful parent event and achieved much toward camaraderie and parent networking.”
— Parent Academy Organizer
