Since 2005 The Power of Hope has been a partner with The University of Washingon's Two Valleys - One Vision GEAR UP grant, delivering enrichment activities and camps to low-income, at-risk students in Skagit and Yakima Valleys to help them get ready for college. In addition, we also offer professional development workshops for GEAR UP teachers of our partner school districts.

The main objectives of GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) are to:

  • Increase the academic performance and preparation for post-secondary education of GEAR UP students

  • Increase the rate of high school graduation and participation in post-secondary education of GEAR UP students

  • Increase GEAR UP students’ and their families’ knowledge of post-secondary education options, preparation, and financing

The Power of Hope has been delighted to partner with this exciting partnership, funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Through our partnership we have served hundreds of youth through dynamic experiential learning programs. Both our school-year and summer GEAR UP programs help youth to uncover their passion, expand their creative thinking, envision their success and form networks of support that are dedicated to helping them accomplish their life goals and dreams.

The Power of Hope is one of eleven partners providing services supporting the GEAR UP mission to the 13 school districts that are a part of Two Valleys - One Vision GEAR UP. If you are a GEAR UP teacher or coordinator interested in bringing Power of Hope to your school, please contact our program managers for more information.
